Hi Leon & Team,
Thanks again for the technical help and your patience in selecting the correct air bags for my truck. As it was not an off the shelf kit selecting the correct one meant having a guess or not fitting them at all.
The many photos of the rear axle assembly was the answer and together with your tech people you have come up with the perfect set up.
The truck is a 1982 Jeep J20 with AMC 360 5.9ltr V8 on lpg and petrol. Fully loaded without the van it is 3.5 to 4 tonne.
The van is a 24ft. Evernew we had built in 2009 and to date has travelled about 100,000km. weight 3.5 tonne and 350kg ball weight.
The setup before fitting the Amarok modified kit was OK but there was more than the ideal amount of pressure on the Hayman Reece load levellers. The bad roads we often travel in the outback especially the floodways and dips cause the rear leaf springs to give a fair bit of travel (bounce). The airbags have corrected this and the ride is fantastic and the truck drives as it does normally without the holiday load in the back. I kept the airbag psi at 35 and only had a small drop in pressure every week when i checked and topped them up.
Fitting the Amarook myself was really easy with good instructions supplied with the kit.
Modifications. The top mounting bracket fits where the old bump stop was and drilling the new bolt holes in the mounts was a breeze. There is a metal brake line in the way of the bottom U bolt so a simple bracket to stand off the u bolt was all that was necessary.
All in all an excellent outcome from you guys at Airbag man.
We were away 6 months on this trip and travelled from Tassie to Alice Springs, Kunnarra where we left the van. Then we travelled the Gibb River road to the Mitchell Plateau and back. Picked up the van then to the Bungles and around to Wynjana Gorge where we again went on the Gibb to Bells Gorge. In all we covered a lot more than the normal GRR crossing as we had to return each time. Apart from a few broken bits (tray manufacturers weld mostly) we came through it well. The trip than went down the west coast to the south west then home along the nullabor to the ferry on 28th Sept.
Great trip. 23,000km and will see W.A again for sure.
Thanks again Leon.
Cheers
Paul C.
